A pile of rubble and construction equipment now lies where LSU’s famed Dairy Store once stood for over 65 years at the corner of South Stadium and Tower Drive.

The Dairy Store is a small outfit run by the university’s College of Agriculture since 1925. It is known for selling ice cream, meats and other dairy-adjacent treats, all of them harvested from plants, cows and other animals on LSU’s campus.

The location being demolished has been there since 1957.

The store’s webpage says its mission is to foster the environment of a professional commercial dairy processing plant and serve as training for students.

About a month prior to the demolition, it was relocated to the Food Science Building a short walk away.

It’ll remain in the interim location for about a year and a half while an expanded Interdisciplinary Science Building is constructed in its place. The Dairy Store is planned to return to its old home when the construction is finished.

The new building is expected to expand the store’s seating and serve 16 ice cream flavors.
