Do you have a ton of beads left from Mardi Gras? Or at least 12 pounds?

Krispy Kreme is offering a dozen doughnuts for every 12 pounds of Mardi Gras beads donated March 5 and 6 at two locations, in Metairie and Baton Rouge.

Beads will be accepted at the Krispy Kreme shops at 825 Clearview Parkway, Metairie, and 5504 Plank Road, Baton Rouge, between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. on those days only.

For every 12 pounds of beads, the shops will offer donors a coupon good for 12 doughnuts.

Krispy Kreme’s bead drive benefits The Arc of Greater New Orleans (ArcGNO), a nonprofit that works to provide developmental opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities. The donations make it possible for Arc to provide supported employment and keep discarded beads out of the landfill, said Sherrana McGee-Stemley, senior director of operations of the Mardi Gras Recycle Center at ArcGNO.

“We truly appreciate Krispy Kreme’s support each year,” McGee-Stemley said.

Krispy Kreme will also hold bead donation events on March 2 and 3 at its Foley and Mobile, Ala., locations to benefit Evans Special School, which works towards a similar mission as ArcGNO.
