A Houma man who fled to Texas after he allegedly shot two men in a drug-related dispute in Assumption Parish nearly two years ago has been arrested, authorities said Wednesday.

Jeramey A. Johnson, 39, shot Shaquille Thomas Starks and another man on July 22, 2021, in Labadieville, Assumption sheriff’s deputies said.

The shooting happened in the area of Willow and Maple streets. Starks and the other man survived their wounds, deputies said.

A sheriff’s investigation into the shooting led to Starks, 27, of the 400 block of Maple Street, being arrested the following January on two drug possession counts. He has since been convicted on a meth charge, deputies said.

Deputies believe Johnson fled to texas, but investigators learned Johnson had recently returned to Louisiana and found and arrested him in Napoleonville on Monday, sheriff’s spokesman Lonny Cavalier said .

Johnson, of the 100 block of Polk Street, was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on two counts of attempted second-degree murder and counts of aggravated criminal damage to property, illegal use of weapons and dangerous instrumentalities, and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, deputies said.

Johnson remained in parish jail Wednesday with bail of $225,000, deputies said.
