Metropolitan Council member Denise Amoroso is calling on Baton Rouge’s police chief to resign after a heated hearing Wednesday regarding alleged misconduct at a Baton Rouge police warehouse devolved into a yelling match, during which the chief accused council members of undermining him.
In a statement, Amoroso called Chief Murphy Paul’s response to the council “wholly unprofessional,” and said he should resign from his position immediately, adding: “His actions Wednesday night disgraced the uniform and call into question his ability to lead.
She continued: “Indeed, if any BRPD officer ever displayed that kind of behavior in a public forum, they would likely be brought up on charges, placed on leave, or any number of disciplinary actions.”
Paul previously announced he plans to retire at the end of the year.
This is a developing story.
