BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A joint investigation by the Louisiana State Police and FBI ended with the arrest of an accused drug dealer in Baton Rouge.
John Michael Brooks, 38, of Baton Rouge, who also goes by the nickname “Poppadoc,” is accused of selling cocaine in North Baton Rouge, according to an affidavit. During an investigation, agents identified two places where they believe Brooks was keeping and selling cocaine.
Brooks was stopped by law enforcement on Wednesday, June 14 after a traffic stop. His car and one home were searched by agents and the following was seized:
- approximately 123 grams of crack cocaine
- approximately 291 grams of cocaine
- 17 dosage units of oxycodone
- approximately 426 grams of synthetic cannabinoids
- six handguns
- cash
The affidavit stated that one gun had an unidentifiable serial number and another gun reported stolen was also found during the search.
Brooks was arrested and charged with:
- possession with the intent to distribute schedule II CDS (cocaine)
- possession with the intent to distribute schedule II CDS (oxycodone)
- possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
- possession of a firearm with a CDS
- possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number
- possession of a stolen firearm
Brooks was a previously convicted felon and he confessed to selling crack cocaine and cocaine, according to the affidavit.
The Baton Rouge man was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Thursday, June 15. He remains behind bars on a $200,000 bond.
