Krewe of Ascension Mambo announce parade winners

Congratulations to the winners of the third annual Krewe Ascension Mambo Mardi Gras Parade held Feb. 3 in Gonzales.

Krewe of J Roy with the Mighty Ducks theme won first place. Second place went to Krewe of Bosses with the Bring it On Clovers theme and Krewe of For All Occasions with the Bayou Classic HBCU theme won third place.

The krewe thanked judges Trenell Smith, Yolanda Leblanc and Raven Veal.

George Bell and Friends to perform at PACE Center

The Price LeBlanc PACE Center in Gonzales is set to host its first community event, “An Evening of Romantic Jazz and Fine Dining” on Feb. 17.

The event will feature jazz musical performances by George Bell and Friends with vocal accompaniment by Quiana Lynell. A three-course meal will be served by Cabin Courtyard & Events.

“We are excited to host this great event in Gonzales and celebrate all things romance and jazz with our community and to showcase fantastic cuisine from one of our local vendors. This is a great opportunity to enjoy a date night out with your special someone or a group of friends and hear the talented George Bell and Friends perform,” said Jaycee Gill, executive director of the Price LeBlanc PACE Center.

Doors open at 5:15 p.m. with dinner service beginning at 6 p.m. Attendees can purchase a single ticket, couples’ ticket or a table of six tickets. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.

Mattress sale March 9

The annual East Ascension Mattress Fundraiser is set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 9 at the high school.

All proceeds from the event help fund needs at East Ascension High. The sale includes mattresses, pillows and accessories.

Drop-off recycling

Residents can drop off their recycling at the Recycling Center at the Department of Public Works headquarters, 42077 Churchpoint Road, in Gonzales. Operating hours are from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. 

The new recycling center in Donaldsonville is open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

The West Ascension Recycling Center, 2171 Thibaut Drive, accepts cardboard, plastics, newspapers and magazines, metal, automobile tires, scrap paper, cartons, scrap metal and white goods.

EA FFA plans plant sale, farmers market

Get your plants and farmers market items March 16 at a sale hosted by the East Ascension High FFA.

The event is set from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
