Baton Rouge man killed after truck hit a tree in Ascension Parish

PRAIRIEVILLE, La. (BRPROUD) – The Louisiana State Police are investigating a crash that killed a 25-year-old Baton Rouge man.

Troopers responded to a crash on Interstate 10 near LA Hwy 73 in Ascension Parish around 10 p.m. Friday. Through an investigation, they learned that Evan Newman was driving a 2006 Nissan Titan.

For reasons still under investigation, the Nissan went off the road and struck an embankment and then a tree. 

Police said Newman was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and died from his injuries. A toxicology sample was taken and will be submitted for testing.
