BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Baton Rouge Airport predicts high numbers of travelers for Memorial Day.
Planning for trips can be stressful, but the Air Service Developer Manager of the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport, Jim Caldwell, said it doesn’t have to be if you plan ahead.
“I always encourage people, you know, it’s good to book in advance, can be flexible on the days two or three days on each side of your trip,” said Caldwell.
According to Caldwell, thousands of people are expected to travel through this airport, which is expected to see a 15 to 20 percent increase over last year’s.
“We’re getting back to passenger volume that’s nearing 2019, you know, pre-pandemic levels at some point later in the year,” Caldwell said.
Despite everything that’s happened in the past years, tourism is on the rebound in our area.
Visit Baton Rouge said they believe more people will travel as well.
“I think that COVID is behind us now. And I think that people are going to be venturing out more this summer and people are going to be traveling a lot,” Mary Ann Sceroler, Visitor Information, Visit Baton Rouge said.
With all those travelers, the airport shares tips on how to be prepared. Which includes making sure you renew your passports and ensuring you have plenty of time to pass through security.
“The affinity credit cards, which is a great thing to get because you can build miles for, you know, everyday purchases. And it gives you other benefits like a free check bag, discounted in-flight food and beverages and other things,” Caldwell said.
