Caretaker accused of taking ‘valuable items’ from elderly woman in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Terry Brown, 53, of Saint Rose was apprehended after an investigation by the Baton Rouge Police Department. The investigation looked into claims that “valuable items” were taken from a nearly 90-year-old woman who lives on Drusilla Lane.

An officer spoke with the daughter of the alleged victim on Thursday, Jan. 5. The daughter said “they hired an in-house care service to care for her,” according to the affidavit. After that, the aforementioned items could no longer be found by the daughter.

Security footage from inside the home reportedly showed Brown stealing from the elderly woman. The affidavit states that on Nov. 28, 2022, Brown was seen on video taking these items:

  • Louis Vuitton purse worth $2,500
  • Three Coach purses valued at $450 each
  • Gold cufflinks valued at $450
  • Gold bracelet

According to the affidavit, $4,300 worth of items were taken. Brown was subsequently fired by her employer.

Brown was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Wednesday, March 15 and charged with:

  • 1 count of theft
  • 1 count of exploitation of the infirmed

The Saint Rose woman was released the following day on $180 bond.
