BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The East Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office is remembering one of their own on Monday morning. Dr. Hypolite Landry died on Saturday, March 18 at the age of 96.

The EBR Parish Coroner’s Office released this statement about the passing of Dr. Landry:

“It is with great sadness that I report the passing of Dr. Hypolite Landry after a lengthy illness on March 18, 2023. Dr. Landry proudly served the citizens of East Baton Rouge Parish as your coroner from 1971 through 1998. He was instrumental in modernizing Louisiana coroner laws during the last Louisiana Constitutional Convention in 1973.

He was well know as a renaissance man, with too many talents to list, but his ability to play any musical instrument, and his aviation records such as his solo flight around the world in 1967 in a single airplane are just remarkable.

He was a mentor to me, and has endorsed and supported me in each of my campaigns. I will miss him, CAVU (ceiling and visibility unlimited) Hypolite!”

Beau Clark, MD, East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner

Dr. Landry’s funeral is scheduled for Saturday, March 25 at Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home.
