No opponent in sight
Dutchtown (3-0) has an open date for the second straight week in the aftermath of Carver’s season-ending forfeits. But it’s not for lack of trying. The Griffins, who planned their Week 4 open date, reached out to nine schools they found with open dates this week and came up empty.
Rankings at Week 5
There are 10 Baton Rouge area teams ranked in the latest LSWA Top 10 polls for Class 5A to 1A going into Week 5, the halfway point of the regular season. University High (3-1) of Class 3A has met pretty much all expectations and is the area’s only No. 1-ranked team.
Pre-district play ends
Week 5 also marks the end of non-district action, with the exception of a few games involving districts that have an uneven number of teams. Most notable is the start of league play for Districts 4-5A and 5-5A in Week 6. That’s four weeks after league play started in nine-team 6-4A.
Countdown to 1,000
Catholic High quarterback Daniel Beale and Episcopal running back Braeden George lead the group of local players in the race to reach 1,000 yards first in 2023. Beale has 928 passing yards to lead all BR area QBs ahead of Week 5. George leads all rushers with 820 yards.
