Hazmat called to scene after part of X-ray machine found in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A component of an industrial X-ray machine containing radioactive material was found in Baton Rouge on Sunday, March 3, according to the Baton Rouge Fire Department.

BRFD said that someone came to Fire Station 7 on Claycut Road around 8 p.m. and showed firefighters a photograph which triggered their response.

The component was found near 6220 Corporate Boulevard, BRFD said.

According to the Baton Rouge Fire Department, “BRFD HazMat took readings in the area and did not find any harmful levels.”

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality “took the equipment into their possession,” BRFD said.

The investigation is now in the hands of LDEQ, according to BRFD.
