Letters: Closing churches won’t fix the bigger issue

Letters: Closing churches won't fix the bigger issue

As the Archdiocese of New Orleans closes some parish churches while merging others, Archbishop Gregory Aymond stated, “This is something we must do for the good of the local church.”

Really?! What was done for the good, the well-being, of the young victims years ago when this ugliness, this sickness became known?

This is an unacceptable solution and explanation for what I am to understand had been decadeslong sins. How could this have gone on for so long?

While I don’t expect an answer, I further ask who thought it best to simply move those people who were committing such horrendous crimes to other parishes.

Surely any reasonably thinking person would know the sins would continue and would unfortunately increase the number of poor, unsuspecting victims.

I ask who is more to blame. Is it the ill individual who used their position, under the guise of God, to take advantage of children or the person in power overseeing it all who made the decision to simply sweep the sins under the rug while the foulness from the gaping wounds was simply left festering?
