I read with sympathy the recent letter from Felton Hudson, whose son was killed on Bourbon Street. My father was murdered in New Orleans many years ago during an armed robbery. The murderer was caught and currently serves a life sentence in Angola. I can’t imagine the pain of losing a child, especially through murder. My family, though, can relate. We share your sorrow.

Our Legislature and our political leaders need to pay attention to the needs of victims. They also need to pay attention to the statistics. More guns or looser restrictions on gun ownership will not solve the problem. We had a gun at the store that was robbed. It did not help. Had Hudson’s son been armed, it would not have helped.
