LIVINGSTON, La. (BRPROUD) — Livingston Parish Public Schools has postponed its district-wide career fair due to low registration, parish officials said Wednesday.

The event was intended for Saturday, April 1. Superintendent Joe Murphy said under 50 teachers registered for the career fair. The district is made up of 46 campuses and almost 65 leaders were prepared to conduct interviews.

“At this time, we are postponing the career fair, as the turnout would be right at one new teacher candidate per campus. There is no need to ask our people to give up their Saturday for this level of response. We will route the applications to our individual schools and ask those applicants to set up interviews with the principals at their respective campuses,” Murphy said.

According to Human Resources Supervisor Steve Vampran, the career fair was scheduled to compete with other school districts that are hosting career fairs in the near future. The district may consider holding an event in the summer if needed.
