Livingston Parish deputy on leave after shooting on domestic disturbance call

SPRINGFIELD, La. (BRPROUD) – A Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy has been placed on leave after shooting a suspect during a reported domestic disturbance.

The shooting happened early Saturday morning along Highway 22 in Springfield. Deputies were called to a domestic violence report and encountered a man with a handgun in front of a residence when they arrived at the scene.

The sheriff’s office said that after multiple attempts to have the subject comply with the deputies’ orders, the suspect pointed a gun toward the deputies and one deputy fired their gun, hitting the suspect.

LPSO deputies reportedly rendered aid until emergency medical services could transport him to a local hospital for treatment. The suspect is listed as in critical but stable condition, according to the sheriff’s office. No other injuries were reported.

This shooting is being investigated in conjunction with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office.
