BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Let’s get this par-tea started!

April 21 is recognized as National Tea Day. This date was chosen because it is Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday.

In Great Britain, tea has become a part of the everyday routine. Tea comes from a plant that originated around southwest China and northern India, according to Peet’s Coffee. The tea plant, or camellia sinensis, is heated continuously, oxidized, dried then placed into hot water.

There are many different types of tea, including black, green, oolong, herbal and more.

Boba, or bubble tea places, have become increasingly popular in Baton Rouge. If you’ve never had it, a chilled tea base is sweetened or has other flavors added, and it’s served with large tapioca pearls that you suck up with a staw. Here’s a list of local options to try on National Tea Day. Or, sample the whole list and find a new favorite.
