A close win by Florida at Kentucky on Sunday left the LSU gymnastics team just short of claiming a piece of the Southeastern Conference regular season championship.

A Kentucky win over Florida would have left those schools and LSU tied for the title. But the Gators pulled out a 198.225-198.100 win over the Wildcats.

Florida finished 6-1 in the SEC, while LSU went 5-2 and Kentucky went 4-3.

Because of the nature of gymnastics, the seeding for the upcoming SEC championship meet, March 23 at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, will be determined by a team’s National Qualifying Score (NQS). Though they finished second to Florida and lost to the Gators in Gainesville, the Tigers currently have the SEC’s highest NQS with a 197.885.

LSU is back in action at 6 p.m. Friday at the Raising Canes River Center in the Purple and Gold Classic against Auburn, George Washington and Texas Woman’s University.
