BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The LSU Lady Tigers have taken the world by storm after their big National Championship win against Iowa. Now, the time has come as they celebrate their accomplishment with President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden.
Vice President Kamala Harris spoke during the celebration ceremony, congratulating the Tigers on their first-ever championship and applauding them for their positive influence.
“You are not just a team; you are a family. You support each other on and off the court. You represent your teammates, your school, and your community with dignity and with grace at every step,” said Harris.
The Lady Tigers are the fourth national championship team from LSU to visit the White House. President Biden welcomed some of the administration and members of Congress. Biden also celebrated the team’s record-breaking accomplishments and called on the country’s support in women’s athletics.
“In this team, we saw hope, pride, and purpose, it matters,” said Biden. “Millions of more women are getting sports scholarships and a chance not just to play, but to earn degrees and build their lives, but there’s more progress to be made. In the media, 95% of sports stories are still about men, but it’s not in this year, or with this team.”
To end things off, Head Coach Kim Mulkey gave the Biden’s a small token of appreciation. They were gifted two Tiger jerseys with the names “POTUS” and “FLOTUS.”
One of the players fainted after meeting Biden, but officials confirmed she is okay and in good health.
