Man faces attempted murder charge after shooting in park; 1 hurt

PAINCOURTVILLE, La. (BRPROUD) — A man accused of a shooting at a community park in Assumption Parish over the weekend was arrested on Monday.

The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office said Warren Verrett, III, 24, of Napoleonville was charged with attempted second-degree murder and illegal use of weapons and dangerous instrumentalities. Officials said the shooting happened at a park off of LA 70 and Daggs Street where a large group was celebrating.

One person was seriously injured and taken to a medical facility, the sheriff’s office said.

Verrett reportedly turned himself in to detectives. His bond was set at $350,000.
