Man hit by car in Ascension Parish dies from injuries a week after wreck

GEISMAR, La. (BRPROUD) – The Louisiana State Police are investigating a crash that killed a man walking on the road in Ascension Parish.

According to the state police, troopers responded to Sugar Plum Road around 9:30 p.m. April 29 and began investigating an accident involving a 2013 Honda Accord. Troopers learned that the Accord was driving when Darryl West, 42, walked across the lane and was hit. State police said West was wearing dark clothing at the time of the crash.

West was sent to the hospital in critical condition and died on Monday, May 8. The driver of the Accord was wearing a seatbelt and was uninjured.

The state police do not suspect the driver was impaired.
