GREENVILLE, S.C. — After her Hurricanes upset No. 1 seed Indiana in the second round, Miami coach Katie Meier’s first call was to her friend and former boss, Tulane coach Lisa Stockton, asking her to come to the Greenville regional.

“I need her here,” Meier said Saturday at a news conference to preview her team’s NCAA Greenville 2 regional final against LSU. “She’s done everything for me. A dear, dear friend and somebody that took a chance on me when I had eight months coaching experience.

“You’re not going to find a classier person in college athletics than Lisa Stockton.”

Meier, who is in her 18th season at Miami, was an assistant at Tulane from 1994-2001.

Stockton, who just completed her 29th season at Tulane, said she’s flying here Sunday for the Elite Eight showdown.

“Katie is one of those special people in life and coaching who will always be on your side,” Stockton said. “It’s her ability to care and connect with people that makes her such an effective coach and mentor.”
