BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Looking for a quick getaway but don’t want to be in the car for very long? Road trips can take a while to plan and require a lot of saving money and coordinating off time, especially if you are a couple with different schedules or a family trying to enjoy Spring Break.

Mini road trips can be a bit more spontaneous and just what someone feeling burnt out may need. They also don’t need to be far away.

Here are some cool spots near Baton Rouge that won’t break the bank and won’t have you sitting down for hours.

False River in Pointe Coupee Parish

Located about 30 miles from Baton Rouge, this beautiful spot is perfect for boating. The City of New Roads is known as “The Prettiest City on the Water.” The river is 11 miles long and is about 21 feet deep. New Roads has lots of places to stay for the weekend, including bed and breakfasts, motels and inns.

St. Francisville in West Feliciana Parish

The cute little town will make you feel like you’re home. A weekend trip can be filled with eating oysters while looking out at the water or drinking at The Saint Francisville Inn, which has the only craft cocktail bar in the area. Train lovers can check out the West Feliciana Railroad Park.

Natchitoches in Natchitoches Parish

Louisiana’s oldest city is also one of the most beautiful. The city has more bed and breakfast places than hotels. Natchitoches is small but has a lot to show. A weekend here can be filled with eating meat pies, shopping on Front Street and paddle boating on the water. The drive is up to five hours.

Galveston Beach in Texas

This trip is also five hours, but the beaches can bring a little taste of vacation if you’re feeling burnt out and want to get out of Louisiana. Galveston Island State Park can be a campground for families. East Beach is one of the larger areas and is perfect for couple getaways. Properties along the beach can be rented and include private pools if you’re not in the mood to get hot sand in your swimsuit.

Pensacola Beach in Florida

This trip is projected to take 3 hours of driving. Yes, you read that right. This beach has Florida vibes and can be one day or a full weekend. Schedule some time off and stay in a condo near the beach. There are live music performances at local clubs in Seville Quarter. Pensacola has a lot of concert venues including the Handlebar 850 and the Vinyl Music Hall. It won’t be hard to find something for everyone here.

Livingston in Texas

This little city in the country has its own nine-hole golf course and a pretty downtown area filled with local boutiques. It may not be at the top of everyone’s “places to visit in Texas” but that doesn’t mean it has nothing to offer tourists. A little trip here could include shopping at eating locally while visiting one of the city’s many parks. If you want to get away from the sirens or the loud noise of the big city, Livingston might be a great option. Check out some places to stay around the area.
