EAST FELICIANA PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) — The parents of a woman found dead on a couch in their Slaughter home had their murder charges thrown out by a judge.

Lacey Fletcher, 36, was found dead on Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, after Slaughter police officers were called about an unresponsive person on Tom Drive. East Feliciana Parish Coroner Dr. Ewell Dewitt Bickham III said Lacey’s body was sitting in feces and urine.

Bickham, who resigned in December, said her death was due to years of medical neglect and ruled the manner of death a homicide. Investigators previously said they believed that Lacey had been left to wither away for a minimum of 12 years.

Clay and Sheila Fletcher previously were indicted on second-degree murder charges but those charges have been thrown out after a judge disagreed with the wording in the indictment, according to East Feliciana Parish District Attorney Sam D’Aquilla.

D’Aquilla said a court date has been set for June 19 at the Clinton courthouse to bring the case before a new grand jury.
