BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The LSU Board of Supervisors approved a lease for renovations in the campus basketball arena on Thursday morning.

Construction costs for the Pete Mavich Assembly Center are projected to be over $1 million but are to be capped at $1.5 million, according to the meeting agenda. Building renovations and upgrades would be for the women’s basketball team, including a renovated locker room, team lounge, coaches’ lounge, film room, connecting corridor and entryway, the agenda said.

According to the lease, the Tiger Athletic Foundation will fund the project, which is slated to finish construction by Dec. 31. During the meeting, it was clarified that no university funds will be used.

National championship-winning LSU women’s basketball head coach Kim Mulkey pressed for funds investing in the PMAC at a Baton Rouge Rotary club meeting in April.
