
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A member of the Baton Rouge Police Department was providing security at the Quality Inn Baton Rouge East I-12 when they were alerted to a suspicious incident.
This took place around 1:10 a.m. on Monday, July 25.
A woman reported that someone “was tampering with her vehicle,” according to the affidavit.
That someone was identified as Jeffrey Upkins, 41, of Baton Rouge.
Upkins was found in an SUV that was located in the parking lot.
The affidavit states that the Baton Rouge man “had an active warrant through EBRSO for possession with intent to distribute drugs.”
A search ensued which led to the discovery of a pistol, cocaine, marijuana, naproxen and a black pill which has yet to be identified by authorities.
The suspect in this case insisted the that pistol and drugs did not belong to him.
Upkins remains behind bars in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and is facing these charges:
- Illegal Carrying of Weapons (with CDS)
- Possession of Marijuana
- Fugitive
- Possession of Schedule II
Bond has not been set for Jeffrey Upkins.
The Quality Inn Baton Rouge East I-12 is located at 9970 Airline Hwy.
