Teen dies, another minor hurt in Ascension Parish crash

DONALDSONVILLE, La. (BRPROUD) – A 17-year-old was killed in a crash in Ascension Parish on Friday.

According to the Louisiana State Police, Charidy Dunbar was driving a 2022 Nissan Sentra on LA Hwy 943 just before 6 p.m. and failed to stop at the stop sign at the LA Hwy 1 intersection.

A 2015 Porsche Macan was approaching the intersection on La Hwy 1. State police said the Nissan entered directly into its path. The Porsche hit the driver’s side of the Nissan, which went off the road and overturned.

After the Porsche crashed into the Nissan, it hit a 2006 Toyota Highlander that was preparing to make a left turn onto LA Hwy 943.

Police said Dunbar was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. A juvenile passenger in the Nissan also was not wearing a seatbelt and was sent to the hospital with moderate injuries.

The drivers of the other vehicles, as well as a passenger in the Toyota, were wearing their seatbelts and were uninjured, according to state police.
