The other teammate immediately released the teen during the sexual battery, apparently horrified by the incident, the lawsuit says.
Afterward, the baseball coach learned of the incident and later told the principal what happened, according to the complaint. However, the principal and coach didn’t contact the teen’s parents to let them know; instead, another parent told the teen he should tell his parents or that parent would have to tell them, the lawsuit says.
When the teen told his parents what happened, the complaint says they quickly contacted the principal, who allegedly “laughed it off.” The parents insisted they wanted Jones arrested, but the principal “warned them that Karson was the team’s best player, and that if they insisted on having him arrested, he would be expelled and the whole school would hate” their child, according to the lawsuit.
The principal added he “couldn’t guarantee” the teen’s safety at the school if that happened, the complaint says.
“The parents replied that it was evident that the powers that be at Doyle High could not or would not protect their son anyway and that they would be withdrawing him immediately and placing him in another high school,” according to the lawsuit.
The complaint notes Jones was later arrested for sexual battery and awaits trial in the 14th Judicial Court Juvenile Division in Calcasieu Parish where the baseball team had traveled for the game.
Previously, Karson had “exposed himself” both at school and during baseball functions, the complaint alleges, but was ignored by the coach and allowed to escalate his actions to sexual battery.
The parents of the teen who was attacked are suing for damages and accusing the defendants of negligence, among other claims.
