BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The unofficial start of summer is almost here, and pools are beginning to open up. Leaders with the YMCA of the Capital Area are teaching students about water safety.

The YMCA of the Capital Area is offering the YMCA Safety Around Water program to second-grade students at area schools. It’s offered as both a classroom presentation and then students are able to practice the safety techniques they have been taught during the program at the Y.

They will learn how to help a friend that might be drowning and what to do around water. The classes will stop after school ends, but swim lessons will continue throughout the summer.
