Auburn vs. Tennessee Prediction

This is a huge game in the SEC with Tennessee sitting at 11-3 and Auburn one game back for the top seed in the conference tournament. The obvious thing that sticks out in this matchup is both teams’ home and away splits. The Vols are 13-1 at home, while Auburn is an average 4-4 in true road games this season.

The other thing that sticks out is the defenses. These are the two best defenses in the SEC and both rank in KenPom’s Top 5 for defensive efficiency. They rank first or second in most major defensive metrics in SEC play, so this game will come down to which team is most efficient on the offensive end.

I’ll give the Vols a slight edge offensively. Tennessee doesn’t turn the ball over, shoots well from two-point range and should control the offensive glass. The Vols will also have the best player on the court in 6-6 guard Dalton Knecht. Knecht is averaging 20.2 points and could be the deciding factor in what projects to be a close game.
