Five Southern University baseball players to play in inaugural HBCU Swingman Classic

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The Southern University baseball team will be well represented in the inaugural HBCU Swingman Classic.

The game is the brainchild of MLB legend Ken Griffey Jr. and will be held during 2023 MLB All-Star Week and be played on July 7th at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.

Senior center fielder Jaylen Armstrong, senior first baseman O’Neill Burgos, senior catcher Gustavo Nava Sanchez, junior right fielder Khyle Radcliffe and junior pitcher Nicholas Wilson are the Jaguars selected to play.

“These guys getting selected to this all-star game shows that their hard work is being rewarded. They earned everything they are getting and I’m proud of these guys, said Chris Crenshaw, Southern University baseball head coach.

Fifty baseball players from Historically Black Colleges and Universities will take part in the HBCU Swingman Classic. The game will also serve to highlight the history and legacy of HBCU baseball programs.
