BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — An LSU Football wide receiver will be changing his uniform number to No. 7 for the upcoming 2022 football season.

LSU Football’s Kayshon Boutte will be making the change from No. 1 to No. 7.

According to LSU Sports, wearing No. 7 has become a tradition, representing a player who is a playmaker that has all the qualities to create a championship team around. Previous players who have donned the No. 7 jersey include cornerback Patrick Peterson, defensive back Tyrann Mathieu, running back Leonard Fournette, receiver DJ Chark, and cornerback Derek Stingley Jr.

“I am excited to get back on the field with my brothers and work all season,” Boutte said. “To do it in the No. 7, and follow in the footsteps of some of the greatest players in LSU history, is an honor.”

LSU Sports said Boutte is considered one of the most dynamic receivers and a matchup challenge for any defender.

“During 16 career games, he scored 14 touchdowns, caught 83 passes totaling over 1,200 yards, and holds the record for gaining over 300 yards and 3 touchdowns on 14 receptions,” a news release said of Boutte.

Last season, according to LSU Sports, Boutte ranked among SEC and national leaders in receiving touchdowns.
