In celebration of National Women’s History Month Associated Women in the Arts is exhibiting works by its members through Saturday, April 22, in the Shell Gallery at the Cary Saurage Community Arts Center, 233 St. Ferdinand St.
The exhibit also will feature an artists’ reception at 5:30 p.m. on March 30. Both the exhibit and reception are free.
Twenty-three artists created 34 paintings and drawings on various subjects for this show, including landscapes, portraits, still lifes and abstracts
Associated Women in the Arts members have participated and won awards in various competitions and juried shows, including Oil Painters of America, National Watercolor Society and National Oil & Acrylic Painters Society. Several members also have been featured in national magazines.
PleinAir Magazine featured several of the group’s shows in its online publication.
Members’ paintings can be purchased at several galleries, including Elizabethan Gallery in Baton Rouge; Julia Street Gallery in New Orleans; Coastal Art Center in Orange Beach, Alabama; and Salmagundi Club in New York City.
The group’s primary mission is to advance the cause of women artists by creating opportunities for education, exhibition and fellowship. The organization also strives to assist the cause of the visual arts throughout the state.
Gallery hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
