LIVINGSTON, La. (BRPROUD)–“The blood is used to save lives and so that’s what we’re doing. The whole thing is to just save lives,” said Blood donor recruiter, Kevin Ford.

According to Ford, one unit of blood can help save three lives. And if Corporal Shawn Kelly’s family decides to use the blood, it will be there to help.

“All the donations will go towards a monetary credit on his hospital bills. So, everybody that donates each unit of blood that’s collected a certain percent, a monetary credit will be on his bill after insurance,” Ford said.

Ford said there is no specific goal they plan to achieve. All they are asking is for Livingston Parish to get community support by donating.

“It’s something easy that somebody can do for their fellow man to save a life,” Ford said.

Albert Jonathan says that he and Kelly crossed paths at a Kiwanis Club event. He says it’s good to see folks rolling up their sleeves to help.

“So emotionally, outstanding and awesome. Just seeing the community come out in numbers to donate. It was really touching and I’m very glad that I get to donate,” Jonathan said.
