The man who was found dead in Baton Rouge last month had been shot and killed by his roomate during an argument inside their Hurst Street home last month, arrest documents say.

Aaron Young, 42, was taken into custody Friday after the body of 48-year-old James Evans was found in the backyard of a house on Progress Street the morning of February 25.

According to police documents, detectives were led to Young after security camera footage showed him and Evans having a verbal argument shortly after Young arrived at the home around 10 p.m. February 21.

In the footage, Young is seen taking a handgun from his pocket and following Evans into the house, the arrest documents say. Once inside, “several flashes of light” are seen in the windows before Young leaves the residence still armed with the gun; Evans is never seen on video exiting the home, the documents say.

Three days later, just before 5 a.m., Young is again seen on the footage backing his Ford F150 to the front steps of the Hurst Street residence and loading Evans, now wrapped in a blanket, into the back of the truck, according to the documents. Young can be seen pouring bleach on the front porch before driving away with the body.

Evans’ body was discovered less than a mile away.

Young faces counts of second-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, felon in possession of a firearm and obstruction of justice. He was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
