Baton Rouge man accused of buying drinks for minors, drunk driving

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A Baton Rouge man was arrested after Louisiana State Police said he bought minors alcohol and was stopped for driving recklessly, while intoxicated.

According to LSP, on Thursday, May 25, a patrol saw a gray Landrover swerving on Perkins Road heading west. As officers began to follow the vehicle, it sped up, reaching 70 miles per hour in a 45-mile-per-hour speed zone. Officers were able to stop the vehicle.

After contacting the driver, officers noticed alcohol on the driver’s breath. The driver was identified as Stephen Sommers, 29. Sommers reportedly participated in a sobriety test but failed, according to LSP.

Three juveniles were in the vehicle at the time of the stop. The juveniles reportedly told LSP that Sommers bought them drinks at a local bar.

Sommers was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Detention Center on charges of driving while intoxicated (first offense), speeding, unlawful purchase of alcoholic beverages by persons on behalf of persons under 21, improper lane usage, and no/expired inspection sticker.
