BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Shots were reportedly fired after a fight at a home on Jefferson Park Drive.
Investigators said the shooting took place around 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28. Kentrell Jones, 41, of Baton Rouge was taken into custody after an investigation by the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office.
Jones was apprehended before detectives arrived at the shooting scene. Detectives were able to find several 9mm casings in the roadway and the driveway of Jones’ home, according to the affidavit.
Detectives were able to view a video showing Jones fighting two people. The affidavit states that on the video, detectives saw Jones go back into the home and come back out firing shots at the victims as they fled.
Three vehicles were also reportedly hit during the shooting. Officials said two of the vehicles did not have anyone in them but a 2011 Honda Pilot was struck by bullets with three people inside. A mother and two children were in the vehicle and one child was hurt by broken glass, EBRSO said.
Jones told detectives that two victims walked to his driveway and accused him of breaking a window at their residence,” according to the affidavit. Jones admitted to arguing with the two victims and things got physical. Arrest documents said the Baton Rouge man stated that he thought one of the victims was in possession of a gun and confessed to shooting at the two victims after going inside his home to get a gun.
The Baton Rouge man was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Wednesday, March 29 and charged with five counts of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated criminal damage to property and two counts of simple criminal damage to property.
Bond for Jones was set at $540,000.
