BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Baton Rouge Police Department will address the uptick in city shootings as summer begins.
Seven fatal shootings have been reported by BRPD in the last week with the latest deadly shooting happening on Thursday night near Florida Boulevard.
BRPD will be holding a press conference at 11:30 a.m. Friday.
After last weekend’s rash of gun violence, Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome released a statement on Monday saying she was “disturbed and saddened.”
“We will not rest until we have addressed the root causes of gun violence and put an end to these senseless acts,” said Broome. “I implore anyone with information about these shootings to come forward and assist law enforcement in their investigations.”
One way the city addresses violent crime is through the Summer of Hope, a community-led campaign. The initiative focuses on areas of high crime in Baton Rouge with a series of events during the summer months. Events include community meetings and fun activities. Click here for more.
