A Gramercy man already sitting in Baton Rouge jail on accusations of indecent behavior and carnal knowledge with two juvenile girls was arrested in a six-month-old slaying in Donaldsonville, authorities said Tuesday.
Ascension Parish sheriff’s deputies said Jermaine Duperclay, 29, shot David Washington Jr. several times sometime before 6:30 a.m. Sept. 30 while Washington sat in his car on Woodland Drive. When deputies arrived, Washington, 31, was dead in the driver’s seat.
On Monday, the Ascension sheriff’s Violent Crimes Unit obtained a warrant for Duperclay’s arrest in the slaying. Deputies did not provide a motive for the shooting.
Duperclay had already been arrested in Baton Rouge on Feb. 23 on two counts of burglary and counts of carnal knowledge of and indecent behavior with the juvenile. He had been in East Baton Rouge Parish jail on $80,000 bail, online records say.
Duperclay had been accused of kicking down the door of a motel room in the 7000 block of Airline Highway and, while armed with a handgun, threatening to kill two teen girls.
When Baton Rouge Police officers arrived, the girls were in his sport utility vehicle with him. Police later found a Glock semi-automatic pistol in the SUV, police said.
Duperclay was also accused of raping one of the girls and sexually abusing both of them, police said.
Duperclay was transported to Ascension Parish Prison and booked n single counts of second-degree murder and illegal use of weapons and three counts of aggravated damage to property.
