Hours-long standoff on N. Sherwood Forest Boulevard ends, suspect shot by police

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A Wednesday, April 5 standoff on North Sherwood Forest Boulevard came to an end around 4:30 p.m. after the suspect was shot by officers with the Baton Rouge Police Department.

BRPD said the incident unfolded around 1:30 p.m. in the parking lot of a strip mall located in the 1200 block of North Sherwood Forest Boulevard.

According to police, Cameron Shorter, 27, had previously been accused of attempted second-degree murder when officers made contact with him in the strip mall’s parking lot.

Authorities said Shorter locked himself in his vehicle for three hours. During the standoff, officials reportedly attempted to negotiate with him.

Police said when Shorter finally emerged from his vehicle, he was armed with a gun. They said officers with BRPD’s Special Response Team began shooting at him.

As a result, police said Shorter sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a local hospital.

According to police, the incident is under investigation and additional information will be released when it becomes available.
