BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Hill’s Great Rover Road Run is an event that is designed to help ensure the Good Samaritan Fund is always available for animals in need of medical care.

“This fund helps pay for ownerless or homeless animals’ medical bills when they come into the vet school. So it’s used for any animals that are brought in that don’t have any owners, wildlife and other animals like that that don’t have an owner and do not have the money to be able to treat them,” said Madison Hopper, veterinarian student and Hill’s representative.

The Sunday, April 16 5K and one-mile fun run near the LSU Vet school included activities for people to get excited about but also some splash time for furry friends.

“We expect to make around $2,000 and all of that is going to go towards the best organizations that we have to disperse throughout the clubs and get some really cool wet labs where we will go out and interact with some large animals, some small animals,” said William Sitterson, vice president of LSU SAVMA.

Not only did people just show up to contribute but also to run some miles.

“I think everybody pulled their weight. They all did a really good job. We had people on bikes that if they wanted to bike. We had people running if they wanted to run,” said Kristen Weimer, an LSU student.

Hopper said all proceeds from the event go directly to the Good Samaritan Fund.
