BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — This weekend hundreds of people are expected to be at the Raising Cane’s River Center to get healthcare.
Volunteers are setting up the Raising Cane’s River Center to act as a medical facility where there will be doctors, nurses and dentists. Dr. David Carter said they are expecting hundreds of people to attend based on previous years’ numbers but there are only a few medical experts volunteering.
“This year, we have the lowest, lowest amount of dentist participation due to a lot of different factors, but hopefully, we can, you know, get some more people that may have three to four hours that they can give in their time and come down and help some people out,” he said.
The free clinic will offer medical care, vision care and dental care for all ages, including routine checkups.
“We’ll be doing dental cleanings, extractions, fillings, medical. We’ll be doing wellness exams. On the vision side, you can get your eye examined. You can actually get a pair of free eyeglasses,” said Donna Lewis, local clinic director of Love Heals Free Clinic.
The event will be on Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Lewis encourages people to show up early. No ID, insurance or appointments are required.
“So we’re hoping not just to have services here on those two days, but to connect people with services after this point,” said Lewis.
