BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD)– Adopting a pet is important because of the overpopulation in many shelters, but the owner of Pet Well Clinic and Dog Training Elite said it’s vital to train your dogs to be well-mannered and obedient.

“Adopting a pet is a great experience. And if you do the key things in the beginning that make sense, get your animal to a good vet and get that care. It’ll save you a lot of heartache and expense down the road,” Ed Erb, owner of Pet Well Clinic& Dog Training Elite said.

Sheba is a Pitbull, and she has been a part of the Erb family for about a year after being adopted. She’s a rescue from the Companion Animal Alliance in Baton Rouge.

Her owner, Ed Erb fostered Sheba and made little progress in finding a fit home for her. This was until he realized he was caring for her like she was one of his own.

“She came with a little bit of trauma, which is something you want to watch out for with shelter dogs, something you need to be aware of anyway. Be patient. You never know what the dogs that are coming from shelters have been through before in their lives,” Erb said.

Erb said he has big plans for the Pet Well Clinic and one of those plans is to prosper.

“Here in the Southeast Louisiana area is to open up a number of pet well clinics to provide this type of easy access, convenient and affordable support for dog and cat owners to make it really easy for them to get that preventive care they need,” Erb said.

The clinic also plans to host monthly adoptions starting in mid-May.
