BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – LSU’s national championship-winning coach shared her experiences as a parent, athlete, and coach during a special event this week.
At The Rotary Club of Baton Rouge’s weekly meeting, LSU Women’s Basketball Head Coach Kim Mulkey explained why a new basketball court is a great idea and what Tiger fans can expect heading into the next season.
As the guest speaker, Mulkey drew one of the largest turnouts the club has ever had. The president of the Rotary Club, Augustin Richard, said it’s usually the football coach that garners the most guests.
The rotary club’s purpose is to give back to the community, and the Baton Rouge chapter is the fourth largest in the country.
Its work impacts lives at both the local and international levels, from helping families in need in local communities to working toward a polio-free world.
During the luncheon, Mulkey suggested the school invest in a new PMAC Court.
“You’re seeing the P-MAC being filled. Not just men’s basketball, but women’s basketball. Gymnastics is in there, volleyball is in there. It’s time and we are a proud university and state. And we have the resources, we just need to get it done,” said Mulkey.
The Louisiana native says her only message for guests at Wednesday’s speaking engagement was to show a different side of her outside coaching.
Mulkey also said that next season the team may not feature the same group of players, but fans should still expect an exciting and competitive game.
