Nine plead guilty to drug trafficking crimes related to gang activity in Tangipahoa, feds say

Nine Tangipahoa Parish residents pleaded guilty to drug trafficking crimes related to gang activity, according to federal agents.

Duane Evans, the U.S. district attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana, said the Drug Enforcement Administration began investigating the Jungle Life Mafia gang in Tangipahoa Parish in 2019. Since then, agents have seized about $590,000 in U.S. currency and 10 illegal guns.

The nine arrested individuals and their convictions are:

  • Michael Alexander, Sr., aka “Monsta” or “Jamond,” 40, pleaded guilty March 9 to:
    • Conspiracy to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl, 100 grams or more of heroin and “a quantity” of cocaine;
    • possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, heroin and cocaine;
    • possession of firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking crimes; and
    • possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
  • Atrell Anderson, aka “Trey” or “Trel” or “Da Boi,” 31, pleaded guilty Oct. 6, 2022 to:
    • Conspiracy to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl, 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and 100 grams or more of heroin;
    • distribution of methamphetamine; and
    • use of a communication facility in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
    • Anderson was sentenced to about 15 years imprisonment, five years of supervised release and a $600 assessment fee.
  • Terrell Haynes, aka “Redman,” 44, pleaded guilty Sept. 19, 2022 to:
    • Conspiring to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl, 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and 1 kilogram or more of heroin;
    • distribution of methamphetamine; and
    • possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
  • Michael Alexander Jr., aka “Mike Mike,” 22, pleaded guilty Oct. 19, 2022 and was sentenced Feb. 14 to seven years imprisonment, five years of supervised release and a $500 assessment for:
    • Conspiring to distribute quantities of heroin and methamphetamine,
    • possession with intent to distribute heroin and methamphetamine,
    • possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and
    • use of a communication facility in furtherance of drug trafficking.
  • — Brandon Baker, 37, pleaded guilty Oct. 4, 2022 to conspiracy to distribute quantities of heroin and methamphetamine. He was sentenced Feb. 28 to about two years imprisonment, three years of supervised release and a $100 assessment fee.

  • Louis Bells, Jr., 22, pleaded guilty Aug. 2, 2022 to  being a felon in possession of a firearm. Bells was sentenced Feb. 28 to just under six years imprisonment, three years of supervised release and a $100 assessment fee.
  • Jerald Alexander, 37, pleaded guilty Jan. 18 to:
    • Conspiracy to distribute marijuana
    • possession with intent to distribute marijuana,
    • possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and
    • possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
  • Star Robichaux, 43, pleaded guilty guilty Sept. 14, 2022 to conspiracy to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl and 1 kilogram or more of heroin.
  • Joshua Prine, 42, pleaded guilty Oct. 18, 2022 to conspiracy to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl and 1 kilogram or more of heroin.

Prosecutors say the case was part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces investigation and the Project Safe Neighborhoods program in collaboration with several local law enforcement agencies.
