BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD)– Baton Rouge police say two people were involved in a fatal Thursday morning shooting.

The deadly shot was reportedly fired around 5:30 a.m. on Dayton Street.

According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, the alleged shooter called 911 for help and was later taken into custody. At this time, there is no word on the circumstances that led up to the incident and neither have the shooter nor victim been identified.

But authorities said someone has already been detained in connection with the incident.

BRPD Public Information Officer, Sgt. L’Jean Mckneely said crime isn’t a policing problem, it’s a community problem.

“So, we’re trying to change the minds of individuals that whenever they’re having any type of issue, not to resort to violence or the use of guns,” McKneely said. “There are many different ways to deal with the issues that you’ve been faced with. And we have partners out there that care. We have resources that are available to you. So we’re working very hard in our messaging, putting those resources out to the community.”

The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
