Pharmacist accused of illegally filling prescriptions for narcotics

BRUSLY, La. (BRPROUD) — The Louisiana State Police arrested a pharmacist from Brusly who is accused of illegally filling prescriptions.

According to arrest documents, on Feb. 2, 2022 detectives received a complaint from a medical practitioner in Baton Rouge that their DEA number was being used by Albanye Randall, 39, to get prescriptions for controlled substances.

Randall was employed by Daniel Pharmacy in Brusly, as well as Walmart’s Pharmacy on College Drive in Baton Rouge.

The medical practitioner told detectives fake prescriptions written under Randall’s name began in August 2018 and continued through December 2022. Detectives submitted a search warrant for a prescription monitoring program (PMP) report. According to the report, there were 39 prescriptions filled for Randall under the licensed practitioner’s DEA number. These prescriptions include 15 prescriptions of alprazolam, six prescriptions of phentermine, and 18 prescriptions of zolpidem tartrate, according to official documents.

The report notes that the listed prescriptions were filled at Walmart on College Drive in Baton Rouge. The majority of the prescriptions were paid for with commercial insurance and six prescriptions were paid privately.

Arrest documents said that on Feb. 6, 2023, detectives contacted the licensed practitioner and were told Randall was not a patient of theirs nor did they prescribe any medication to Randall.

Detectives requested a search warrant for Walmart Pharmacy records for any transactions involving Randall. A Walmart investigator sent state police detectives the requested information. The information included 37 fake prescriptions that were written by the licensed practitioner and surveillance of Randall filling these prescriptions, according to arrest documents.

Randall was arrested on charges of 37 counts of obtaining a controlled dangerous substance by fraud. Randall was released on bond from the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, according to police records.
