The former Walgreens at the corner of Staring Lane and Perkins Road has been sold for $2.8 million to a Lafayette investment group that plans to open a hot pot and Korean barbecue restaurant.
Ace Landing Investment LLC bought the building at 2159 Staring in a deal that was filed Friday with the East Baton Rouge Clerk of Court’s office. The seller was Monroe Plaza LLC, Four Boys Holdings LLC, Donnie Jarreau Developments LLC and Stalter Holdings LLC, all of Baton Rouge.
The former Walgreens building is over 11,000-square-feet and sits on a 1.3-acre lot.
Sophie Zhao of Beyond Realty in Lafayette, who is listed as the manager of Ace Landing Investment, said the group has partnered with a restaurant ownership group in Texas. The group owns eight Surfing Crab boiled seafood restaurants in Texas and the Umiya Sushi restaurant in San Antonio.
The plan is to open a restaurant in early 2025, Zhao said. “It’s a new concept,” she said. The group is working with architects and engineers to design the space. A name has not been selected for the restaurant.
Hot pot and Korean barbecue are two restaurant styles in which diners cook their own dishes at the table. In hot pot restaurants, guests choose meats, vegetables and starches that are placed in a simmering soup base. Korean barbecue restaurants have a hot grill in the center of the table that guests use to prepare marinated meats.
