BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – In recent weeks, Baton Rouge drivers may have noticed an increase in construction activity along I-10 near Dalrymple Drive.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development said this is all part of the I-10 widening project.

The plans are making headway, officials announced Thursday. DOTD explained that crews are testing piles and shafts from the I-110 Interchange to City Park Lakes near the Dalrymple Drive exit. The testing will provide workers with the design parameters necessary for widening the elevated roadway. Crews are also carrying out vibration monitoring and construction site surveying.

This work is Stage One of the overall plan and it’s expected to continue until early 2024. Officials say it shouldn’t have much of an impact on traffic flow.

The purpose of the project is to provide drivers with four travel lanes in each direction from the I-10/I-110 Interchange to Acadian Thruway. The entire project is expected to be completed in 2028.
