Suspect in deadly Plaquemine shooting turns himself in to deputies

PLAQUEMINE, La. (BRPROUD) — The suspect accused of fatally shooting a 24-year-old man turned himself in to the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday morning.

The suspect was identified by deputies as Nikeis LeBant, 18. He was booked into the Iberville Parish Jail and charged with second-degree murder.

According to IPSO, the victim was found shot to death in the front yard of a residence in a Plaquemine neighborhood on Friday, April 7. On Monday, April 10, the homeowners and parents of LeBant, Mario and Alicia Harmason, were charged with obstruction of justice and accessory after the fact to second-degree murder.

The Harmasons had previously told deputies that they did not hear any shots fired the night of the incident. Deputies also learned that Alicia had deleted a video that could have helped in the investigation.
